Comfort Counselor

Back to the Hospital

Day 7

As much as I love Florida Hospital and the cheerful, loving staff there, I’d be happy to never visit again, lol. Today, though, I had my second outpatient surgery in 2 months – the placement of a catheter port that will be used to administer my infusion medications over the next year. Treatment will begin this coming Monday. It’s kinda weird, but not really…. I’m not afraid.

But I am apprehensive about how my body will react, and I really just want to get on with it.

My husband and I have both found a peace in our predicament. It’s the peace that can only come from God, and I’ve been told that the patients who are blessed with this mindset are the ones who experience the most favorable outcomes. If you’re struggling with a situation that’s robbing you of your peace and joy, I highly encourage you to turn to God. He’s not punishing you. He loves you and wants to free you from anxiety and fear. Consider these words:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:6-7

You may notice the word Thanksgiving and wonder how you could ever be thankful in the middle of your storm. I believe that gratitude is one of the keys in finding freedom in the ability to give all your problems up to our Heavenly Father. Life is but a fleeting second when compared with forever, and it’s love and eternity that He calls us to focus on.

As all good fathers do, God has modeled this concept for us. As the Father, he sacrificed his beloved, perfect son and allowed him to be subjected to horrendous torture, humiliation, and an excruciating death. As the son, he gave up his place in Heaven at the right hand of God and took on a human body so that we could be freed from the evil in our lives.

This, in a nutshell, is the Good News! Trials and tribulations will come. We live in a world filled with hatred, disease, and despair. But He has given us a hope that transcends it all and for this we can be thankful no matter what we’re going through.

Please let me know if you need help in this. And if you understand what I’m sharing and have found peace, please feel free to help me help others via the Comments section below.

May the Peace of Christ be with you!
