Day 4
Until now I’d never really considered the financial ramifications of disease. My eyes were opened when my insurance company called to tell me the co-pay for my medications would be $1,800 for every 21 day cycle. I’d found the hundreds I’ve shelled out for office and hospital co-pays to be a burden, but this was a complete shock! This type of major expense could wipe us out, and in fact has bankrupted many families.
The rich can afford this type of expense, and the poor are taken care of. But those of us in the middle class often find ourselves overwhelmed by medical expenses.
But I have a God who has promised to protect my household and provide for our needs, and boy has He come through for us!
Just days before getting hit with this sticker shock, I had located a foundation that offers assistance for pharmaceutical co-pays. I was approved immediately for a $5000 grant, which reduced my first 2 cycles to $0 and will cover most of my third. Fortunately I do have health insurance, and my max out of pocket is $6,700 per year. The grant money will be applied towards my annual max, leaving me with a gap of $1700. After that all of my medical expenses will be covered 100% by insurance for the remainder of the year. Thank you God for lightening my burden!
I’ll be posting information about this foundation and others in the Resources Post in this blog. Please feel free to use the comments section to post any additions you may have knowledge about. I hope that together we can help lighten the financial stress on other families facing disease.
